Liverpool fc 2012 – sam speaks

I, like most Liverpool fans were hoping 2011/12 would be a better year but it turns out (so far) it has been relatively similar to the past 10 – 20 years, save for a few good seasons in between.

Yes, we won the Carling Cup, our first trophy in six years but the Carling Cup despite offering a Europa league spot is not a Cup taken very seriously by most of the top teams. It is more of an exposure tournament for their younger players. No disrespect but two Championship teams got into the semi finals and that says a lot.

What is wrong with LFC? Spending 100 million on players doesn’t guarantee success, especially if you can only get expensive second choices.

Suarez and Enrique are the only success amongst Kenny Dalglish’s purchases since he took over.

Adam somehow looks like a player only good enough for Blackpool (no disrespect to Balckpool but Gerrard, Lampard or Bekham at 26 won’t sign for Blackpool).

Carroll looks like a top striker – in the Championship.

Downing – let’s accept the fact that he has always been second best. Failure to get Ashley Young means you have to buy his back-up?

Henderson is one for the future, I’m sure he’ll come good one day. The day sadly has yet to come.

Gerrard is getting a little bit old and injury prone. He is still very good but cannot be relied on as before.

Kuyt is hardworking but hardwork needs to be translated into goals which he has failed to do so far. He is also getting older and may not be able to contribute as much as he did before.

Spearing and Kelly are not the young Gerrard and Carragher.

Our problem seems to be scoring goals despite having two top rated strikers. I’m not a football expert but I think Carroll needs a good winger to serve him. Maybe Maxi can do the job Downing failed? Can we entice Robben or Ribery to come to Merseyside?

My hope is if Dalglish keeps most of the present team for next season, they would hopefully have grown an understanding with each other and are able to play better as a team.  The team has played some beautiful football this season but killing off teams seem to be a problem.

Let’s try to win the FA Cup. That’s all we have left.
